Greenwich

Greenwich puts the gold in Connecticut’s Gold Coast. Consistently ranked as one of the wealthiest cities in the country, Greenwich regularly attracts a steady stream of affluent real estate investors looking for summer homes and primary residences. But its reputation as a money town isn’t the only thing that makes Greenwich attractive. Its beautiful coastal location and the local history gives Greenwich a cozy, small-town atmosphere, with a dash of the upscale on the side.

Currently, Greenwich has a population of more than 62,800 residents and a total area of 62 square miles.

History highlights:

  • Greenwich was settled in 1640 when a group of families purchased some land from the local Native Americans for a price of 25 coats. This makes the city one of Connecticut’s oldest and most established communities.
  • It didn’t take long for Greenwich to become its own township. After being a part of New Netherlands and then the New Haven colony, Greenwich became a township in 1655.
  • When the Revolutionary War came to the region, Greenwich became one of the Continental Army’s lookout points. Greenwich fell to the hands of the British, however, and was pillaged.
